IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annie Laura
Locke
December 2, 1927 – September 10, 2025
Annie Laura Walker Locke was born on December 2, 1927, as the middle child of the late Mr. & Mrs. Henry Allen Walker, Sr. After living the complete life of 97 years, her Heavenly Father called her home on Tuesday, September 10, 2025. In her early years, Annie attended Old Salem, Greater Sardis and then completed her journey as a member of First Missionary Baptist Church. Annie graduated high school in 1946, earned her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Alabama State University in 1957, and received her Masters of Science in Education from Troy State University in 1979. While her family knew her as a wife, mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother, her greatest contribution to the community was being an educator for over 33 years. Most of her teaching was at the predominantly black D.A. Smith School. She gracefully accepted assignment to Mixon Elementary School after school integration. She retired from Ozark City Schools in 1986 alongside one of her closest friends, neighbor, and college roommate, Florine Colvin. She continued to teach, encourage, advise, serve, and express love towards others until God called her home. During her spare time, Annie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and making homemade jams and preserves. She was active in her community serving as an original founder of the Daffodil Garden Club, which she served over 70 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Matrons, Alabama Education Association, Dale County Education Retirees Association and many other affiliations.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Mr. Wesley Lee Locke, Sr.; sister, Jeanette Roberts; brothers, Douglass Walker, Henry Walker Jr., Charles Walker, Boyd-Allen Walker, and Joyce Pernell "Shane" Walker.
As a strong branch of the Walker Family Tree, her legacy will be sustained by her daughter, Theresa Ann Locke and son, Wesley Lee Locke, Jr. (Agnes) of Ozark, Alabama; sister-in-law, Magdaline January of Evergreen, Alabama; grandchildren, Lionel Locke (Amy) of Huntsville, Alabama and Ethan Locke (Appolonia) of St. Louis, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Locke and Jameson Locke of Huntsville, Alabama; the family dog, Brody; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
