Cecelia
Brackin
Jun 25, 1962 — Jul 16, 2026
Cecelia Brackin was born on June 25, 1962, in Dothan, Alabama, to the late Charlie and Mae Bell Lester. Her mother was a talented hairdresser, and her father was a barber, inspiring Cecelia’s lifelong passion for the beauty industry.
She attended Dale County High School, graduating with the Class of 1981. She later enrolled at Wallace Community College, where she earned her degree in cosmetology. Cecelia began her career as an apprentice under Ms. Sheffield in Dothan before going on to teach cosmetology in Montgomery, Alabama.
Throughout her career, Cecelia worked at JCPenney Salon for several years before expanding her talents to several other salons. She later co-owned Essence of U in downtown Dothan alongside Andrea and Lashawn. She eventually continued her career at KD’s Barbershop, where she faithfully served her clients until her health declined. An old-school professional stylist, Cecelia built lasting relationships with her clients, many of whom traveled from Georgia and Florida for her exceptional hair care and expertise.
Cecelia was a lifelong member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Newton, Alabama, where she was raised and remained a devoted member until her passing. She had a deep love for music and worship and found great joy in singing. She was a dedicated member of the St. Mark choir, the Love of God Mass Choir, and participated in numerous choir workshops throughout the Wiregrass area.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mae Bell Lester; her sister, Mary Laster; and her brother-in-law, Charlie Laster.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, LaDarius Brackin (Kirsha Brunko); her brother, Charlie Lester Jr. (Jacquelyn Lester); her beloved grandchildren, Kreed, Hendrix, Kye, Damarri, and DomUnique; her aunts, Lizzie Pearl Lester and Maggie Lester; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and countless clients whose lives she touched through her kindness, talent, and unwavering dedication.
