Obituary

David S. Matthews was born on December 7, 1948 at home on 701 Daleville Street in Ozark, Alabama. He was the third child of Aubrey Napolean Matthews, Sr. and Addie Ruth LasterMatthews. He departed this life on Friday, December 19 at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama. David had many interest, such as automobiles, airplanes, radios, gardening, military, nature and hunting. One memory is of him building radio sets. He put everything together in place where it is supposed to be, however, the radio exploded on him. It did not stop him from going further with his interest in various engineering projects. He graduated from D.A. Smith High School in May 1967. He attended and graduated from the Alabama Institute of Aviation Technology with a certi cate in Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic. He was employed with Page Aircra at Fort Rucker for many years. He was baptized and accepted Christ at First Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark, Alabama and served as an usher. His accomplishments include: enlisting in the armed forces in the Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Army Service Ribbon, Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Medal, Achievement Medal, Aircra Crewman Badge, Overseas Training Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, was ordered to active duty during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Pistol Expert and Sharpshooter Badge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey Napolean Matthews, Sr. and Addie Ruth Laster-Matthews; sister, Nora Matthews; brothers, (Ret.) Major Aubrey Napolean Matthews, Jr. and Reverend Robert A. Matthews. He leaves to cherish his memory his siters, Carolyn McCray and Ruthie M. Boykin; brother, Dexter Matthews; sisters-in-law, Twinetta Carrol-Matthews and Alice Faniel-Matthews; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
