James Mitchell "PEANUT" Hairston was born on August 1, 1959 in Ozark, Alabama to Mamie Lou Gissendanner and John L. Smith.  Peanut went home to be with the Lord on October 17, 2022.  He joined the Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.

He was precede  in death by his parents and brother Manuel "Bucket" Hairston

Peanut will live in the memory three sisters, Robbie Gissendanner, Mary Hairston Long, and Rosalynn Calhoun,  two brothers, Michael (Loraine) and Rodney "Ping"(Patricia).  Step- daughter, Jessica Johnson and step-son Joshua Sylvester, 6 nieces and 11 nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews, and a very Special Friend Kishay Gaines.
