Johnnie Mae McLeod passed peacefully on Sunday December 18, 2016 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. She was surrounded by family and caregivers during her transition from this life.
Johnnie Mae was born on November 30, 1929 in Louisville, Alabama to Johnnie and Mary "Sweet" Fountain.
Johnnie Mae was the only child born to this union.
She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. In her younger years she was a member of the Pea Creek Baptist Church, she later joined Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist where she remained a member until death. She functioned on many auxiliaries and was a member of the Senior Choir.
Johnnie Mae affectionately known as "Mul" was an excellent cook and worked, until retirement, in the cafeteria of D.A. Smith Middle School. She also served on the Food Ministry at both churches where she held membership. Mul took great pleasure in cooking for others and often hosted huge dinners for family and friends. Among her specialties were chicken and dumplings, apple turnovers, tea cakes, butternut cake and peach cobbler just to name a few.
Mul was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband Charlie McLeod, and daughter Annie Lois Hunter.
Johnnie Mae leaves to mourn her passing: two sons John L. (Lizzie Ree) Jones and Willie C. (Mae Julie-deceased) Jones both of Ozark, AL, one aunt Ellen Chamber Florela, AL; 10 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren, and a host of extended relatives and friends.
Service Information is as follows: Visitation will be held at the Newman Mortuary chapel on Friday, December 23rd from 5pm until 7pm. Funeral service will be held at Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark. Internment will follow at Westside Cemetery after the service.
