Obituary

Lawrence Clifton Welcome Jr. was born August 5, 1942, in Orange, Texas to Lawrence C. and Lillian Welcome Sr.

Lawrence graduated from Emma P. Wallace High School in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 12, 1963. He went on to serve his country for twenty-two years and eleven months, retiring on March 31, 1985, as a Sergeant First Class (E7). He received numerous medals and commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal, to name a few.

He worked for the federal government in civil service for nineteen years, retiring as a GS-11 in 2004. During his civil service, he also obtained a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Education, and an Associate Degree in Applied Science.

Lawrence accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was united with Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Orange, Texas. After retiring from his civil service career in 2004, Lawrence and wife, Mamie, relocated to Ozark, Alabama in and would later unite with Greater Old Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the finance and cemetery committees and as a Trustee. He also served as a Deacon and was faithful until his health started to decline.

One of his passions was mentoring the youth at the Boys and Girls Club where he served as a board member for ten years, receiving the National Service to Youth Award .

Lawrence entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2022 at his home in Ozark, Alabama. He was proceeded in death by his parents, stepfather, Lazar Demouchet, and brother, Leonard Demouchet.

Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of fifty-four years, Mamie D. Welcome; daughter, Anphonetta Y. Welcome, Atlanta, Georgia; son, Lawrence C. Welcome III, grandsons, Tyreek X. Parker and DeLano M. Welcome, great-grand daughters, Aubrey T. Parker and Karley M. Parker, god daughter, Ethel D. Carter, all of Huntsville, Alabama; sister, Albertha I. Harris-Chuck, West Covina, California; aunt Eloise Jones, Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including two special sister in laws, Jacqueline Frye and Mae Newman.
