Obituary

Ozark... Lloyd Flowers passed away Sunday November 4th at Dale Medical Center. He was 86. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9th at the Newman Mortuary Chapel from 5pm until 7pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 1pm at First Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark. Internment will be at Ozark City Cemetery (Racetrack).

Obituary

Lloyd Flowers was born August 16, 1932 to the late Sylvester and Ozie Flowers of Dale County, AL. Lloyd attended D.A. Smith School. At an early age, Lloyd joined First Missionary Baptist Church, Ozark, AL, where he remained a life-long member. As a faithful member, Lloyd actively served on the Trustee Board and the Usher Board for numerous years. As a community leader, Lloyd was a founding member of the Voters League Organization where he served as treasurer.

Not only was Lloyd committed to the church and the community, he was devoted to his family. On August 12, 1950, Lloyd and Melva L. Shipmon were united in marriage. To this unbreakable union, six children were born. Lloyd supported his family by becoming a skilled concrete mason. For several years, Lloyd was employed with Madison Construction Co. In 1992, Lloyd and his brother, Sylvester, formed and operated, Flowers Brothers, a concrete masonry business. Evidence of their skilled craftsmanship is spread all across Ozark and the Wiregrass.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Melva; two sons Jeffery and Timothy; two daughters Evelyn and Kimberly, and one brother Sylvester. Lloyd leaves to cherish his loving memories two daughters - Cynthia Fenn and Gwendolyn Green; two grandsons - Gerald Jones and Andrew (Crystal) Flowers; five granddaughters - Ashley Flowers, Amber Brown, Ariel Chapman, Alexis Flowers, and Angela Flowers; five great-grandchildren - Azavier Armstrong, Lauryn Flowers, Avery Flowers, Alonna Huffman, and Amir McRae; three sisters-in-law - Lou Ethel Flowers, Ozark, AL, Annie Long, Daytona, FL, and Gracie Mosquero, Sumter, SC; two brothers-in- law - Charles Shipmon, Daytona, FL and Charles (Paula) Harris, Ozark, AL; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special friends - Verlene Johnson and the Johnson Family of Ozark, AL.
