Tariq Raheem Hasan (nee’ Paul Brown, Sr.) was born to the late Ruby Brown and Theodis Mathis on November 26, 1935, in Dothan, AL. He returned to his Creator (Allah) on February 22, 2026, after a long and enriching life.

He received his formal education in Florida and New York Public Schools. He served in the United States Air Force as a Firefighter Helper and was honorably discharged in October 1962.

He was an avid and very talented musician and singer, most notably as a drummer. During his musical career he also performed with Otis Redding, Peggy Scott and Jo Jo Benson, James & Bobby Purify, and others. Later, he was a member of the famous Sex Tex Band, Lewis Moffett Review, and Positive Force. He also played for various local churches.

During his lifetime, he was married three times (Mattie, Glendell and Elaine), and the father of Paul Brown, Jr., Cheryl Brown McCrea (Charles), Paula Brown, Donna Brown Powell (David), Theodis Brown, Vector Cole, Siddeeqah Pullen, Malik Hasan, Hakeem Hasan (Kim), and Anwar Hasan. He was blessed with 42 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his aunt and uncle Mary & John Jacskon.

Brother Hasan returned to His Creator during this Holy Month of Ramadan. Islamic tradition (Hadith) believes that dying during Ramadan is a blessed and honorable death.
