Sister Victoria Calhoun was born July 6, 1925 to James and Cora Welch in Ozark, Alabama and was raised in the Skipperville area of Dale County. She went home to be with the Lord on February 2,2025. Victoria attended and graduated from Ozark Colored School, later D.A. Smith High School. She joined Sardis Baptist Church, later Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, under the late Reverend P.F. Cook. She was active in several organizations in the church, choir, matrons, president of missionary, and Sunday school teacher. She attended church faithfully until her health began to fail. In 1970, she was the co-founder of the Melatones Gospel Singers, which was in existence for over thirty years. She was married to S. (Ted) Dawkins and Woodrow Calhoun, both preceded her to the grave. She was the last survivor of Cora's children. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ulysses, Annie W., Isaac, Annie Laura, Eural B., Eulishes, and L.C.; and one son, Oscar L. Calhoun. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Marie A. Dawkins (Yeadon, PA), Bettye Salmon (Ozark, AL), and Joanne (Willie) Marshall (Columbus, GA); two sons, Woodrow Calhoun, Jr. (Sharon Hill, PA) and Corondo (Sonja) Calhoun (Fayetville, NC); nineteen grandchildren; thirteen greatgrandchildren; great-grandchildren that she raised, Kimmora and Trevel Rivers; special friends, Honorable W. Stanley Garner, Jr., Wells Garner, Judy and Ronald Wright, and Robert Logan; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, greatgreat- nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins and friends.
