Pastor Alan B. Scott passed away in Oak Grove, Kentucky, on December 3, 2021. He was born in Geneva, New York, to Harry Scott and the late Mary Jean (Crews) Scott on August 26, 1967. At the age of 11, Alan’s family moved to Ozark, Alabama. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1985. After high school, he served in the United States Army’s Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG) in numerous locations around the world for 21 years before retiring. Also, while stationed in Germany, he was an instructor at Central Texas College.
He was installed as the pastor of Gracey Baptist Church in Gracey, Kentucky, on May 29, 2016. Previously, he also ministered at the Safe Harbor of Clarksville - Lighthouse Mission Ministries in Clarksville, Tennessee. At the time of his death, he was the President of the Sunday School Convention in the Little River Cumberland Valley Association. He was also a certified Dean of the Sunday School Publishing Board.
As a child he was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark, Alabama. He became a member of Gracey Baptist Church in June 2014.
Pastor Scott completed bachelor’s degrees at Austin Peay State University and American Baptist College--where he graduated magna cum laude. He completed a master’s degree in divinity at Liberty University. At the time of his death, he was working on a doctor’s degree at Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Alan leaves behind to cherish his memories: wife of 33 years, Cherrita M (Currington) Scott; children: Justin A Scott (Washington, District of Columbia) and Alandra M Scott (Oak Grove, Kentucky); father: Harry Scott (Ozark, Alabama); uncle: Eugene Crews (Rochester, New York); aunt: Lillian Scott (Rochester, New York); siblings: Yvonnie M Scott (David E Elliott Jr.) (Marietta, Georgia) and Christopher M Scott (Ozark, Alabama); father-in-law: James E Currington (Ozark Al); brother-in-law: James E. (Renae) Currington Jr. (Montgomery, Alabama); sister-in-law: Chanda (Jeffrey) Mayer (Lima, Ohio); nephews: David E Elliot III (Marietta, Georgia), Jacob D Borders (Lima, Ohio), James E Currington, III (Ozark, Alabama), Jalen Bivins Scott (Georgia), Jeffrey B Mayer (Lima, Ohio); and; nieces: Alekia L Currington (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) and Alannah A Mayer (Lima, Ohio); and a host of cousins and friends.
