George Matthews left his Earthly home on Monday, January 18th at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL. He was 75 years of age.

Obituary

Mr. George “Leroy” Matthews was born on December 30th 1945 in Chester Pennsylvania, to the late Aubrey Sr. and Clara G. Matthews.

Leroy attended D.A. Smith High School where he played football and in 1964, he left and went to the job corps in California as a cook. He had several jobs cooking in Michigan and also in Ohio and California. In 1974 he worked for General Mills until he retired in 2002. In June of 2019 he moved back to his home, Alabama.

His loved ones that preceded him in death are his parents; Aubrey and Clara Matthews, his daughter Precious Anderson, three sisters; Delois Shipman, Leona Harrison, and Olivia Matthews, two brothers; Robert Peterson, and Clinton Matthews.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memories; one son Anton Jones, one daughter Shalanda Robinson, both of Toledo, Ohio, one brother, Aubrey Matthews Jr. of Ozark, two sisters; Cynthia Powell Lakeland, Florida, and Etta Matthews of Ozark, Alabama, 15 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, one sister-in-law Carolyn Matthews of Ozark, Alabama a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends.
