Death Notice

A resident of Ozark, Alabama passed away on Thursday April 1,2021 at Dale Medical Center. She was 100 years old. Visitation will be Friday April 9,2021 at Newman Mortuary from 4:00pm-6:00 pm.

Graveside service for Mrs. Thomas will be April 10,2021 at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Dr. Stephen C. Hudson officiating.

 

Obituary

Born June 16,1920 in Ozark, Alabama to the late D.W “Bud” Thompson and Henrietta Howard. She met her husband William David Thomas and married in 1939. They nurtured six children together. Mary worked all her life and her favorite saying was “If you don’t work you don’t eat.” She loved to talk to her friends on the telephone as well as watch her favorite TV shows. Among her love for her family and friends she enjoyed cooking and baking cakes. She loved God, her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father D.W. “Bud” Thompson; mother, Henrietta Howard; Husband, William David Thomas; Sons, Jimmy Thomas; William Thomas Jr and Kenneth Earl Thomas. Daughter, Addie Pearl Walker; Sister, Assie Lee Harper; Nieces, Edna M. Jackson and Annie Carol Jackson Martin.

Surviving relatives include: daughter, Mary Jean Taylor of Ozark, AL; Isham Thomas(Martha) of Luverne, AL; former wife, Gloria Thomas of Valdosta, GA. ;Grandsons, Cornelius Taylor(MeChelle) of Dothan, AL. Terry Walker of Atlantic City, NJ.

Granddaughters, Mabel Thomas Williams of Ozark, AL. Yalonda Reynolds (Eric) of Dixie, GA; Tameca Cade(Daniel) of Luverne, AL; Christina Watson(Robert) of Suffolk, VA; Angel Thomas of Rochester, NY.

Great- Grandchildren include; Miguel Duncan(Kadaria) of El Paso,TX; Jaheim Thomas and Jacoby Dawsey of Luverne, AL; Quadarius Greene of Mobile, AL; Demetria, Rosa, Zachariah, Terrance, Jamil of Rochester, NY. Jerrica, Jasmine, and Robert Jr, Watson of Suffolk, VA. Son-in Law: John E, Walker of Chesapeake Bay, VA.

Nieces include: Anna Lois Thomas of Ozark, AL; Norma R. Chestnut of Atlanta, GA. Rose and Mary Jackson of Atlanta, GA.

Nephews include: James “Jim” Harper of Ozark, AL; George Harper(Barbara) of Washington, D.C.

Great-Nieces include; Judy and Brooke of Atlanta, GA

Great-nephews: Christopher and Grayling Jr of Atlanta, GA. Jeremiah Harper of Atlanta, Ga.

Great-Great Grandchild; Jahlil Thomas

Special Friends include: The SnellGrove family; Angelues Thornton; Georgia & Craig Walters; Janie Mccloud; Mary Stevenson; Florine Colvin; Ella Yvette Frazier; James Greene; Lionel, Theresa and Annie Locke; John Preston, Annie Ruth and John Oscar Matthews; Mattie “Baby Ruth” Davis and many more host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
