Otherene McLeod Obituary

Otherene, (Rena) McLeod, age 68 of Rahway, New Jersey formerly of Skipperville, AL passed away Saturday July 10, 2021.

Rene was born on September 2nd 1952 from the holy union of Obie McLeod and Betty Cole.

She was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Skipperville, AL, where she and her family were long time active members for many years.

She was a graduate of G.W. Long High School, Skipperville, AL., (class of 1970).  Upon graduation Rena relocated to Newark, New Jersey where she attended college and received an Associate Degree in Computer Programming from Berkley College in Woodbridge, N.J.  After a twenty five year career in the banking industry Rena became an employee with Basic Leasing, (Architectural Firm)  located in Kearney, N.J., before retiring as a Contract Supervisor in 2007.  Two of their biggest contracts while working for Basic Leasing were the redesign of the employee common area of the Goldman Sachs Building and the Merril Lynch building located in New York City.

Rena was a big fan of the arts and she had an abundant love for children.  As a parent she supported several dance schools in the South Orange/ Maplewood New Jersey area and became long time friends with Lynn Irby and Leslie Cleveland who were co owners of the schools along with her daughter, Timeka.  In that same spirit and passion after relocating to Alabama she supported the Dothan School Dance, Tri State Orchestra and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Pi Omega Chapter (ILLP Youth Group) where her youngest daughters, Starla and Jasmine were students.  Her hobby was genealogy. She devoted many hours researching the McLeod family tree and became friends with the late Manonia Snell who had extensive knowledge in the field and had written several books on Dale County History.

She is preceded in death by her father Obie McLeod

She is survived by her loving mother, Betty L. McLeod, (Ozark, AL), three devoted daughters, Timeka McLeod-Jamison; (Lamar), Starla McLeod and Jasmine McLeod, (Rahway, N.J.).  Siblings; Mitchell Mcleod, Delores Cohen, Anthony Mcleod, Angela McLeod, (Ozark, AL) Wade McLeod (Julie) (Brundidge, AL) , Joan Dangerfield, (Dothan, AL), a special nephew, Kemon McLeod, (USAF, CA.), a special friend, Hollace Peele, Somerset, N.J. and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family members.
