Mrs. Pearl Prater was born to the late Whittie Mae and F.T. Lawson on December 13, 1937, in Dale County, Alabama. She departed this life and went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2022.
Pearl was a 1957 graduate of D.A. Smith School. She attended Wallace College in Dothan, Alabama, where she received a 2-year degree. She was a very active member at Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark, Alabama where she was the President of the Usher Board, President of the W.C. Audrey Circle, and a member of the Matron. She started her career at the Ozark Nursing Home Facility in 1969, where she worked for 40 years. She also worked for Dr. Mack and Dr. Taylor Caffey for a total of 33 years. She was always willing to assist her colleagues and train any new CNA team member. Pearl loved working at the nursing home, and she was always kind and considerate to the residents and to their families. Pearl would always say, “I can’t help but to keep a smile on my face because I love what I do, and I love the patients.”
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, F.T. and Whittie Mae Lawson, husband, SGT Charles Prater, son, Charles Anthony Prater, sisters, Wonnie Rosbia, Ora Lee Ruley, and Annie Bowens, brothers, Johnny Frank Lawson, and Lawyer T. Lawson, grandson, Christopher Savoy Jones, nephews, Allen Lorenzo Lawson, and Wallace Ruley, great niece Zoe Lawson, cousins Rev Levi Baldwin and Samuel Baldwin.
She is survived by her best friend and loving daughter Sophia Prater Jones (Christopher), grandson, Berek LaShaun (Alyssa) Warren, granddaughter, Christina (Kishawn) Jones, great-grandchildren, Tyree Deshaun Warren, Phoenix and Amai Jones, sisters, Emma King and Sarah Blackwell, brother, Jerry (Jacqueline) Lawson, sister-in-law Faye Lawson, a very special friend Spencer Stokes, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and many many friends.
