William Arthur Blackwell a lifelong resident of Ozark, Alabama went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 24, 2021. William was born May 9, 1940 (although his birth certificate stated March 13, 1940) in Rockingham County, North Carolina.
William also known as, “Blackwell” graduate from high school in 1957 and joined the army at a young age. He retired from the military after serving 20 years and 8 months as a Military Policeman. He also retired as a civilian from Fort Rucker after 28 years of service as a Transportation Supervisor. He confessed Christ at an early age and accepted Jesus as his personal savior. Blackwell joined First Missionary Baptist Church in the late 1970s and was a dedicated active member. He was very active in The Eastern Star – Pride of Alabama Chapter #60, Euclid Lodge #68 District 5, First Missionary Baptist Church Usher Board, the monthly group birthday luncheon, and he absolutely loved his yearly cruise trips. He loved his son, grandson, and great grandchildren dearly and enjoyed being around family and friends. His hobbies were fishing, riding around in his Cadillac and truck, watching the Lady Eagles – Carroll High Basketball team, and spending lots of time with his great grandchildren, and not to mention we would always, always check on his nieces Sophia and Renia.
William was preceded in death by his mother Lilia Jane Blackwell Wilkerson, brothers Lenward Blackwell, Jonathan Blackwell, Robert Lee Wilkerson, Charles Wilkerson, Richard Wilkerson, and Jasper Wilkerson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving son William Devin Blackwell (Ashley) of Montz, LA, grandson Devin DeShaun Blackwell, fiance Alyssa Miller (Ozark), Jazzmine Dozier, great grandchildren Kiley Janae Blackwell, Alexis Marie Blackwell, Z'JohnTavious Phillips, Za' Riyah Jones, Aalana Walker, sisters Eva Brandon-Fox and Patricia Richardson (Brown Summit, NC), Elsie Hall (Greensboro, NC), brothers Luther Wilkerson and Henry Lewis (Reidsville, NC) Thomas Wilkerson (Doretha) (Greensboro) and very special nieces and nephews Sophia (Chris) Jones and Renia (Eddie) Eutsey.
